We come in Peace

We come in peace, they said
We want to be friends, they said
We are good people, they said
We come bearing gifts, they said
Playing at the river bank
While our fathers were fishing
And our mothers cooked in the huts
When we saw a big boat coming towards us
So big it was that we thought it was going to crush us
"Run, hide; Aliens are coming."
"Where are our warriors?"
My little village by the river bank was in chaos
Mothers took their children and hid in the huts
Fathers went out to fight the Aliens
Surprisingly, the big boats stopped
Instead, small boats like ours came toward us with the aliens
Aliens that look like us,
Covered in jewels and clothes that fascinated us.
Aliens whose skin coloyr was different from ours,
Who spoke a foreign language,
With no weapons
Fascinated, we moved closer to observe them
While wondering where they came from
In awe and fear, we approached
The village elders met and welcomed them
We come in peace, they said
We want to be friends, they said
We are good people, they said
We come bearing gifts, they said
Intriguing us with their gifts,
They said; we come from a faraway land
And where we are from, there are a lot of gifts
Even your kind is there
We come in peace, they said
We want to be friends, they said
We are good people, they said
We come bearing gifts, they said
Oh! What a lie they told us
They came for us
Disguised with gifts and knowledge,
They took our culture and our people,
Our resources and (our) childhood.
