THE VANISHING OF MY EVER-LOVING GARI

A SIMU Comedy Reflection

Baba…
Where my gari?

My eyes dart to the table —
wide, confused, betrayed…
like action film hero wey just realize say the bomb timer don reach 00:01.

Just last my memory recall,
she dey sit gently there,
waiting for me…
my soft, calm, innocent companion —
my ever-loving gari.

We had plans.
Destiny.
A future soaked in cold water and powered by groundnuts.
We were supposed to grow old together —
me, her, and that one stubborn sugar cube wey no dey melt.

But now?
She vanish.
Empty table.
Silent room.
Only breeze dey blow small like ghost dey tiptoe pass.

Is this how heartbreak starts?
Is this how sorrow tastes before the soakings?

Which enemy of progress don infiltrate my kitchen?
Which spiritual force don carry my gari go for midnight excursion?
Ah!
This world wicked.

My brother…
My heart don sink pass Titanic.
I dey mourn my gari like fallen hero.
Let the world know:

No love pass the bond between man and well-soaked gari.
