THE SYMPHONY OF HUNGER
By SIMU
In the quiet corridors of my belly,
a rebellion begins —
soft at first, like whispers under moonlight,
then rising,
a full orchestra of need.
The pangs strike their drums with perfect timing,
burning in symphony —
a medley of ache and anticipation,
a melody only hunger can compose.
My bowels hum in basso profundo,
a duet with memory —
of steaming stews, of laughter round bowls,
of spoons clinking like tambourines of survival.
The kitchen becomes cathedral,
and every grain a gospel note.
Garri waits in holy patience,
ready to baptize me in sweetness and salvation.
I laugh, weak but alive,
for in this harmony of want and wonder,
I hear the oldest music known to man —
the song of survival,
played on the strings of an empty stomach,
conducted by creation itself.
