SHADOWS

Shadows lurk in the dark and wait for the one bored.
"Revisit, revisit," they echo in the idleness of the mind.
"Just a little," they say; "just one more round," they promise.
But "one more round" is what they keep saying anytime they call.

They come with mouths so sweet,
Words pleasant to sway the shaky resolve.
"Do not punish yourself," they advise;
"Just this last time," they convince, "a puff won't hurt."

Addiction is like a shadow in the dark—
It is not always glaring unless with the light,
Especially from the lens of its captive.
It creeps into your mind step by step
Until it engulfs your sense of control.

-shadowesque loops are tough, but knowing when to step back can be the key. Keep being kind to yourself, it's such a fine line sometimes.
